Our Story
I’ve always had a thing for the ones who need a little extra love.
I’m the person who walks into a shelter and immediately notices the scared one. The abused one. The derpy-looking one sitting in the back.
Call it a mild “I can fix him” complex.
In college, that dog was Norman.
It Started With Norman
Norman had been badly abused before I met him. His tail had even been broken and healed at an angle, giving him what we lovingly called his little duck tail.
Earning his trust wasn’t instant. It took patience, consistency, and a whole lot of love. But eventually, Norman became my soul dog.
Together, we went from Florida to South Carolina to Michigan, where Norman eventually met his new dad, my now-husband and co-owner of Guardian Goods.
Six months after Norman walked me down the aisle to marry him, we lost Norman to canine dementia.
And six months after that, Lily came into our lives.
Then Came Lily
Lily is the reason Guardian Goods exists.
She’s our husky, our baby, and the inspiration behind this entire brand. Her actual snoot became part of our branding. The colors throughout Guardian Goods were actually pulled from her ridiculously unique coat.
And she also introduced us to something we hadn’t fully understood before: What it feels like to love a dog other people have already made assumptions about.
Lily is one of the sweetest, calmest dogs we’ve ever known. She loves people. She loves animals. She’d probably happily leave with a stranger if they offered her a snack.
And yet, when we were renting, apartment after apartment told us she wasn’t allowed. Some insurance companies wouldn’t cover us because of her breed classification.
On paper, she was considered a risk. To us, she was just Lily.
That disconnect became the heart of Guardian Goods
This brand exists to celebrate the breeds that are so often labeled before they’re understood.
From Huskies and Akitas to Pit Bulls, Staffies, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Shepherds, Corsos, Mastiffs, Bullies and beyond, we celebrate the dogs whose reputations rarely tell the whole story.
The dogs who may require more patience, training, responsibility, and a thicker skin when strangers have opinions.
But the people who love these dogs already know: Behind the size, strength, stubbornness, drama, and intimidating faces are some of the funniest, neediest, most loyal companions imaginable.
